Forthcoming Exhibitions
Inner Landscapes - Israeli Contemporary Photography

Exhibition dates:
Friday 10 September 2010 - Saturday 9 October 2010

“Inner Landscapes - Israeli Contemporary Photography” features the work of seven famous Israeli artists, most of them first seen in Munich.
The exhibition presents works from younger generation Israeli artists. Their photographs address the topography of present-day Israel, reflecting the actual geography of the landscape as well as the feeling of the young population. The fast changing politics and the perpetual religious conflicts between the Jewish and Muslim populations set the frame.
In addition to the Israeli Artists, the series “Trees of Tel Aviv” by the German photographer Mat Hennek is also on show. This exhibition provides an insight into the artist’s point of view on the city. In fact, his fascination with Tel Aviv’s unique atmosphere, led him to create the 2007 shots in only one night. The photographs were taken with an exceptionally long exposure time, with only the light of his surroundings and the black sky of the night, giving the impression that the city and the trees look like a studio shot.
The exhibition is taking place in cooperation with an initiative of the circle of friends of the Tel Aviv Museum of Art. This initiative “The Art Road to Peace” supports art lessons for Jewish and Muslim children together.

Past Exhibitions
AFRICA
Friday 9 July 2010 - Saturday 7 August 2010

Over the summer Bernheimer Fine Art Photography will show a fabulous AFRICA-exhibition, representing two artists: Nick Brandt “A shadow falls” and Silke Lauffs “South African landscapes”. While everybody is concentrating on The World Cup in South Africa, the exhibition will focus on the landscape and habitant. Two different perspectives illuminate the beauty of Africa’s nature. Nick Brandt portrays the unique fauna, especially the endangered species, in a very personal way. Silke Lauffs interprets the South African Landscape with her Panorama-camera as a dreamworld of past times. Bernheimer invites you to discover the varied African landscape and animals. These pictures draw the eye to the breathtaking atmosphere of this continent. The exhibition of these two artists – Nick Brandt and Silke Lauffs – provides a new and sensuous experience of Africa.

New York Sleeps Christopher Thomas
Friday 18 September 2009 - Sunday 18 October 2009

New York Sleeps
Foreword by Petra Giloy-Hirtz and Ira Stehmann

This is New York! Or are they dream worlds, chimeras, inventions, or perhaps testimony to a past era? Viewers are astonished, recognizing the places and getting lost in memories. A city of silence, beyond the turbulence of everyday life, a metropolis with no people, as if a spell had been cast on it: Grand Central Station, Fifth Avenue, the Flatiron Building, Katz’s Restaurant, the Brooklyn Bridge—familiar, but never seen this way before.
When we unsuspectingly removed these photographs from a drawer—seven views, all taken in 2001 (before September 11), softly sketched as a result of long exposure times, printed on deckle-edge paper with the streaky border of a Polaroid—we urged the photographer to return to New York, where he had lived now and again over an extended period, in order to continue the series. Over two more years, including stays in each of the seasons, he produced a portfolio of photographs, of which the present volume presents a selection of nearly eighty works.

Landscapes

With the exhibition “Landscapes – Photographs by Sebastian Copeland, Mat Hennek, Andréas Lang and Martin Pudenz”, Bernheimer Fine Art Photography presents a classic theme of photography through the lens of four contemporary artists: that of landscape. Thereby, the choice of the photographers reflects the whole spectrum of current landscape photography – with the artists’ approach to the theme as well as the technical translation differing in each case.

Lucien Clergue curated by Christian Lacroix
Thursday 5 March 2009 - Saturday 25 April 2009

„Every millimetre of every black-and-white grain in ever single one of Lucien Clergue’s pictures is for me an Arles-flavoured ‚madeleine’, as much as the pores of my skin. Doubtless because he was my first photographic go-between – as if he had already illustrated the dephts of my memory with the living mythologies which, from La Roquette to Trinquetaille, have been ours since time immemorial; with the reflections – modern, trivial, sublime – of the ancient theogonies.“ Christian Lacroix
